How to make sense(s): an analysis of the audiodescription of the filmic adaptation "Interview", by Rubem Fonseca

Abstract

Social inclusion demands public policies, which invest in overcoming physical, communicational and attitudinal barriers, providing people with disabilities equal opportunities. Regarding visual impairment, the Audio Description (AD), translation of the non-verbal sign to the verbal, aims to promote accessibility to static or dynamic images. Like every translation act, the Audio Description, although it is based on methods and
techniques, is crossed by subjectivities, being necessary the consultancy of a person with visual impairment to guarantee the quality of the script. In this sense, the present work aims to analyze the script of Audio Description of the short film Love in the air (2012), a film adaptation of the tale Interview of Rubem Fonseca, in order to perceive the relevance of the translational choices. Thus, we present as a methodology a descriptive analysis, of a qualitative nature, based on the studies on Narratology of Jiménez-Hurtado (2010) and Payá (2007), which establish parameters of investigation of the elements of the audiovisual narrative in narratological, cinematographic and grammatic-discursive levels. With this study, we finally sought to contribute to a reflection on the process of film Audio Description and its importance for the inclusion of visually impaired people.
