Ferramentas cognitivas e tecnológicas para inclusão social de pessoas com deficiência visual
Abstract
Tanto o conhecimento intuitivo quanto os estudos científicos e as estatísticas apontam para o fato de que as pessoas com deficiência sofrem frequentemente discriminação social, podendo chegar ao extremo da rejeição e consequente isolamento da pessoa (KIDD; SLOANE; FERKO, 2000; REN; PAETZOLD; COLELLA, 2008). As consequências humanas, psicológicas e socioeconômicas são gravíssimas. Para tentar superá-las, a maioria dos governos promulga leis e estabelece benefícios e/ou incentivos para tentar favorecer a integração social dessa população. Em 2006, foi adotada a Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre os Direitos das Pessoas com Deficiência (entrando em vigor em 3 de maio de 2008). Essa Convenção é o primeiro instrumento internacional impositivo: descrevendo as obrigações dos Estados em relação à promoção e à proteção dos direitos das pessoas com deficiência no mundo todo, ela foi cuidadosamente analisada sob vários aspectos por cientistas sociais, que a consideraram um dos melhores instrumentos nesse âmbito (MANNAN; MACLACHLAN; MCVEIGH, 2012).
